Courtney Marie Andrews describes her sound as a mix of ’60s folk and good ole Americana, but her sweet melodies and ruggedly powerful lyrics create a boundlessness that labels can’t contain. The Seattle-based singer is currently touring the East Coast in support of her fifth album, On My Page, which is packed with acoustically complex songs. Andrews says, “I had always loved words, and I had always loved to sing. Eventually, the two just met up.” But as much as the 22-year-old Andrews loves to write songs about the heartache of losing a loved one or longing for one, the music itself is her muse. “I get really inspired about the feelings you get from a chord.” —Tamara Younkins SUNDAY
