As a precursor to Black History Month, visit the City Gallery at Waterfront Park’s newest exhibit, Color in Freedom: Journey along the Underground Railroad, which features almost 50 paintings, etchings, and drawings. All works in the collection are by Joseph Holston, a Maryland-based painter and printmaker; it was originally curated by the University of Maryland University College and is toured by the nonprofit International Arts & Artists The works are divided into four movements, each meant to represent different stages of the experience of traveling on the Underground Railroad, including “The Unknown World,” “Living in Bondage,” “The Journey of Escape,” and “Color in Freedom.”
