If laughter is the best medicine, then we’ve got some Mohr medicine coming our way — Jay Mohr, that is. As a part of the College of Charleston’s Family Weekend, CofC will host a comedy showcase with Mohr, whom Comedy Central has named one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time. “We’re kind of going with a Hollywood theme,” says director of student life Susan Payment. “We wanted to pick someone who was easily recognizable.” You’ve probably seen Mohr on SNL performing one of his spot-on imitations. If blindfolded, you’d be hard-pressed to pick out the real Christopher Walken from Mohr playing copycat. But he doesn’t just do celebrities. Mohr can impersonate any stereotype, from an angry Boston fan screaming at his Sox to a drunken Scot trying to get a beer. Even though his performance is technically a family weekend event, we’re thinking you might want to leave Grandma at the hotel. In addition to impersonations, Mohr is also known for stories that can make grizzled men blush, which is the kind of reaction he seems to strive for.
