CofC welcomes local authors to their Book Fair Saturday

Meet members of Charleston's lit community

College of Charleston's Family Weekend is here. While that translates into a buzzkill for some students, it signals the return of the College of Charleston Bookstore's annual Book Fair for others. For the ninth year running, the Bookstore hosts a street-wide Book Fair, showcasing 28 local authors and books on George Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Sat. Oct. 3. The books vary in genre but are all consistent with a general Charleston theme.

Author Karen White is one of the featured authors as she pre-releases her new book The Girl on Legare Street. Attendants will be part of a lucky few who can buy the book a month before its debut in November. Another featured author is Bret Lott, whose book Jewel was named to Oprah's Book Club list.

The College of Charleston Bookstore began this event as a way for parents to see the wide variety of opportunities their children are exposed to. General Trade Manager Thomas "Max" Condon says that the Book Fair and Parent's Weekend are a group effort. "We try to show parents that there's so much going on in Charleston."
