Here's your chance to enjoy Italy for an entire weekend, without leaving the Lowcountry. The College of Charleston presents Taste of Italy, an Italian Film Festival exploring the unifying power of food and cinema. The festival begins on Thurs. Nov. 5 and runs through Sun. Nov. 7 at the Sottile Theater, 44 George St. Opening night will feature a reception sponsored by Slow Food Charleston and food from local restaurants Al di La, EVO Pizzeria, FIG, Monza, Trattoria Lucca, and Wild Olive. Movies will begin soon thereafter with a screening of Focaccia Blues at 7 p.m., with a Q&A session with movie director Nico Cirasola following the film. Focaccia Blues tells the story of two bakers from Altamura who put the local McDonald's out of business by enticing their customers with a local version of fast food. Other films include La Gran Bouffe, Mid-August Launch, Lessons in Chocolate, and finally Terra Madre on Sunday at 6 p.m., with a festival wrap-up panel discussion hosted by Slow Food Charleston.
