There’ll be an all-day cockfight in Park Circle this weekend, but no rooster feathers will get ruffled. Cockfight is actually a music festival and block party presented by the folks behind the Queer-Rock Night series in Los Angeles. The monthly events began in 2011 in L.A. as a way to “celebrate beers, queers, and rock ’n’ roll.” The Queer-Rock Night series has featured various DJs and musicians, including Chi Chi LaRue, Daniel Ash (of Love & Rockets, Bauhaus), and Homo Riot. The festival at the Sparrow will start at 11 a.m., coinciding with the kick-off of the Charleston Pride Parade in Park Circle. A PBR Beer Bust Block Party off of East Montague Avenue will run through 4 p.m. Late-evening musical acts include Bobby Stardust (a glamorous Bowie tribute band), indie band the Stations, and other guests. DJs will be on hand as well. Proceeds benefit Lowcountry AIDS Services, a local organization that deals with the effects of AIDS, from prevention to counseling and helping clients get treatment.
