For most school children, recess is their favorite subject, but as grownups we don’t get the satisfaction of scheduled playtime. That is until CharlestonRECESS, an adult pool party series, kicks off this Saturday. Guests will get to lounge by the swanky pool at Mixson Bath and Racquet Club while sipping on champagne, mixed drinks, or brews and nibbling on food from Básico. Grab a brunch ticket ($15) and show up to the party at 11 a.m. for some eats, or turn up at 1 p.m. when the DJs start playing. Rob Garza, founding member of Thievery Corporation, headlines the afternoon’s musical performances, and Las Olas will put on a swimsuit runway show. “We wanted to get this event going as a way to fill what we thought was a void in Charleston daytime events for the warm weather since there is no longer the option for public beach drinking on a sunny weekend day,” says Taylor Weil of Brightsound Entertainment. “We wanted to perpetuate the summertime, livin'-easy attitude by doing all the planning for our guests so they can arrive to a totally organized and luxurious event.” They’re even offering shuttle rides to Mixson for downtown residents. Just stop by the Anne Street parking garage and for $10, you’ve got a ride there and back.
