Charleston may not be New York, but this New Year’s Eve it’s coming close. Cirque de Soleil performers, Guinness Book of World Record holders, and an illusionist are just a few of the entertainers to be featured at the first-ever Charleston Unmasked New Year’s event. Charleston Unmasked is not necessarily a party or a performance, but a hybrid of the two, says event co-organizer Stephen Darby. “There’s going to be a live ice carving that’s 10 feet tall, human statues, an open bar with premium liquor … Absolut Vodka is even unveiling a new flavor,” he says. Performances will last until 11:30, with breaks in between to mingle. In the NYC tradition, there will be a ball drop at midnight followed by a two-hour dance party.
