Charleston Museum plans new textile gallery

The Charleston Museum recently announced the creation of a 2,000-square-foot textile gallery on their second floor, which will open in October. Pulling from the museum’s extensive collection of historic textiles and clothing, the gallery will feature a rotating roster of exhibits starting with “Threads of War: Clothing and Textiles of the Civil War.” Other exhibits will focus on historic clothing, militaria, and needlework, and there will also be a special section with “study drawers” that visitors can pull out to get a closer look at artifacts. “This wonderful gallery will at last provide a permanent venue for related educational programs and the sharing, over time, of all portions of those collections with our visitors,” Museum Director John Brumgardt said in a release.
