If you’re not simply content to take a seat at Theatre 99 and let someone entertain you, you might want to take a stab at the Charleston Comedy Festival Stand-Up Competition. Its first round is Aug. 19, and every prelim will feature 14 stand-up performers, who will each have a five-minute set. The audience will vote for their top two performers, and the four comics with the most votes will move on to the semifinals later this year, which then lead to the finals, which will lead to the top three comics performing during the fest, which will lead to someone (or more than one comedian) winning two $500 prizes. It’s only $5 to watch and control the fate of these funny people. The next round is in September.
