Charleston City Paper Rare Beer Bar Crawl

Not long ago, local beer enthusiasts would have fainted at the sight of the selection of craft-brewed ales and lagers at grocery stores and beer shops we enjoy these days. There are more seasonals and strange brews available now than ever before. For those who feel like they’ve sampled most of the standards and the specialties they’d ever want to try, the Charleston City Paper Rare Beer Bar Crawl presents a unique opportunity to venture into new territory. As one of the main events of the festive Charleston Craft Beer Week, the crawl is a casual tour through downtown with slew of hard-to-find brews from some of the top microbreweries in the U.S. There’ll be IPAs, dark ales, barrel-aged high-gravs, and chocolate and maple beers. Participating bars include Charleston Beer Works, Mellow Mushroom, the King Street Grille, Big John’s Tavern, HoM, the Griffon, Closed for Business, Tommy Condon’s, O’Malley’s, Leaf, and Boone’s. The A-Plus Sunoco Food Truck will get into the action as well. The featured breweries are Thomas Creek, Foothills, RJ Rockers, Sweetwater, Holy City, Terrapin, Brooklyn, Shipyard, and Anheuser-Busch. Each bar will host one brewery and feature one or two rare beers at a special price. Attendees can register online and pick up passports and T-shirts at Mellow Mushroom on Saturday from 12-2:30 p.m.
