During the summer in Germany a magical phenomenon happens: beer gardens seemingly sprout from the soil. Tables are pulled out of storage and set up on patios and decks to create a communal, alfresco drinking environment. But fortunately for the Holy City, we don’t have to make the transatlantic trek to experience it. The third annual Charleston Beer Garden returns to Brittlebank to provide the Lowcountry with their take on a German beer garden, which is really more of a beer festival. Hilary Johnson, an event organizer, let us know there’d be more than 30 craft beers available for sale from breweries, including Abita, Brooklyn, Holy City, Lagunitas, Leinenkugel, Oskar Blues, Palmetto, RJ Rockers, and more. And your general admission ticket gets you a free festival mug, five beer tickets, participation in the beer olympics (featuring games like the growler ring toss), and access to the Home Brewing Village. The latter is sponsored by EarthFare and features classes on pairing food with beer to learning how to home brew. Of course, there’ll be music — what kind of festival would it be if there wasn’t? Regina Ferguson, New Galaxy, Dunder Chiefs, Atlas Road Crew, and Whiskey Diablo will take the stage. And the garden wants to make sure you’ve got food so you can get your drink on. Bay Street Biergarten, Kickin’ Chicken, Little Star of the Caribbean, Charleston Festival Foods, King of Pops, and others will be dishing up eats. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Pet Helpers.
