Everywhere we turn people are talking about soccer. Blame the World Cup. And with all this futbol fever, we shouldn’t forget to show our love to our home team. Despite the unfortunate loss of the Battery’s last game against top-ranked Orlando City, the players are ready for some redemption at Blackbaud Stadium this week when they take on the LA Galaxy II, the reserve team for MLS’s LA Galaxy. “The boys definitely prefer to play at home and we’ve had a couple of rough games on the road, so they’re excited to play before the Charleston fans again,” says Whitney Woods, marketing manager for the Battery. Sixteen games are left before eight USL teams qualify for the playoffs, and only nine of those games will take place at home, so it’s time “to get some wins under our belt,” says Woods. Keep an eye out for Quenton Griffith, who was recently moved from his usual spot at midfield to defense and has become a standout player.
