Ana out of steam

Storm season opens with variety

UPDATE: The afternoon report from the National Hurricane Center is that Ana is dissipating and isn't likely to regenerate.

The Atlantic tropical storm season came crashing in over the weekend, with the first three named storms in a matter of hours and landfall for Tropical Storm Claudette in the Florida Panhandle. Predictions for the seasons first major storm, Hurricane Bill, suggests it will stay off the coast.

But Tropical Depression Ana may impact the Charleston coast by early next week. There's competing guesstimates on what Ana will look like once it makes it to the Florida coast Wednesday or Thursday— either arriving as a dissipating storm or as a tropical-force bruiser. Current expectations from the National Hurricane Center is that it will slow dramatically over Florida for a few days before heading north, possibly curving back toward the East Coast.
