School is in full swing, and after this weekend, you can check environmental studies off your class to-do list by attending this year’s Carolina Green Fair. The fair, established in 2008, educates others on how to make the least environmental impact in our community. To do this, vendors and local businesses look to achieve sustainability, or at the very least use equipment that doesn’t greatly deplete our Earth’s resources, while keeping things fun. This year’s fair will include more than 100 exhibitors, eco-friendly cultural events like sustainable art, and activities for the kids. Co-founder and executive director Suzie Webster says, “Charleston County was excited to bring many of their initiatives, such as their single stream recycling program (or recycling that you don’t have to sort) and commercial composting to the fair. It’s a great opportunity for educating the residents of Charleston County about all of the green opportunities right in their own neighborhoods.” Music headliners will include the Chickasaw Mudd Puppies, Gaslight Street, and Katina Rose. MUSC will be on site with their Adventure Out Program classes, which encourage you to exercise at local parks and recreation locations. Local restaurants like Home Team BBQ will conduct cooking demos, and there will be an Eco-Fashion Show and Re-Trends Clothing Swap. If you want to relax, you can hang out at the New Belgium Beer School or play with the kids at the Eco-Carnival.
