Capital Bookfest has promoted and celebrated literacy in our nation’s capital since 2005. The free one-day literary festival assembles writers, poets, and children’s book authors to present their work through readings, discussions, storytelling, and conversation. This is the first year the festival has traveled outside of Washington D.C., as it makes stops in Charleston and Harrisburg, Pa.
Some notable local participants include Swallow Savannah author Ken Burger, 18-year-old Good Fortune author Noni Carter, and College of Charleston professor Bret Lott. Poet, writer, activist, and educator Nikki Giovanni will also be in attendance with her latest work, Bicycle: Love Poems. —Dustin J. Pitts
