BY THE NUMBERS ‌ Gutter Ball on Hurricane Alley 

The excitement in the weatherman’s eyes when storms start brewing out in the Atlantic is almost as unbearable as the evident disappointment when he has to report that it’s a non-starter. Well, what’s bad for the news outlets is good for everybody else. But don’t go using those extra batteries or eating those beanie weenies in the hurricane pack just yet. Ernesto appears to be on the way and longtime residents are happy to warn that Hurricane Hugo hit well into September. Here’s a look at what’s happened by Aug. 30 in past seasons, typically running from June 1 to Nov. 30, and what follows in the second half of the season.
