When it comes to bluegrass country, it doesn’t get much more authentic than Western North Carolina. That’s where the four musicians who make up Asheville-based Buncombe Turnpike — Tom Godelski, Evan Swink, John Duncan, and Seth Rhinehart — hail from, and it may be part of why their sound is just so darn great. There’s no pretension — just warm, rustic, foot-stompin’ bluegrass music that makes you think of mountain hollers and quiet skies filled with stars. Buncombe Turnpike has been playing their mix of originals and traditional bluegrass in venues throughout North Carolina and parts of the Southeast since 1997. They’ve released four albums in their time together, and all four have been voted onto WNCW’s list of top bluegrass albums of the year. The most recent, Ditch Diggin’ Blues, was also voted one of WNCW’s best albums of the year. Approx. 1 hour. Part of Piccolo Spoleto.
