Re: “The Sgt. Jasper plans are no uglier than Charleston's past, present

No uglier than past or present so why try. Improvement is such a bore. What do you want to be when you give up?

Re: “Today's police departments look more and more like occupying armies

File a FOIA act on the education levels of our police force. I think too many have been allowed to substitute military service for formal education and they are most clearly not interchangeable.

Re: “Protesters threaten to shut down Ravenel Bridge toward Mt. Pleasant at 4 p.m.

Patrickincola. What you're not understanding is the kind of attention this will bring. People aren't going to listen to your cause if you're slapping them in the face. This is the kind of attention that undermines the legitimacy of a movement. You can't demand respect while simultaneously disrespecting the people you are asking to support you. Common sense!

Re: “Charleston's anti-panhandlers are envious of the homeless

Another poorly researched article in a local "paper". Let's be honest, you're not writing this and working there because you are an excellent journalist. In that regard you've delivered exactly what one would expect.

Re: “Panhandlers meet angry resistance in West Ashley

The author hasn't done a very good job of assessing the impact of pan-handling in terms of image and economic fallout. To the author's question of "what do you do with panhandlers", the answer is in the Post and Courier article he mentioned but didn't read. Answers from the very people we entrust to serve as a social safety net - don't give money to a panhandler, if you want to help give money to a shelter (which have plenty of beds) or a food bank. It's all pretty simple and this convoluted article (what was the point?) never seems to arrive at the (already given) answer.
