The Charleston Horticulture Society is kicking off spring with Plantasia, but before you enjoy the Wragg Square plant sale, make your way to Grow Food Carolina for the Botany of Beer. It’s an extension of Plantasia that’s all about local brewing. You’ll learn how beer goes from the farm to the growler with beer expert Julie Jenny of Scott Arboretum. She’ll cover everything from wheat and barley to fruit and hops, and how each component is used in brewing. Your ticket includes eclectic food options from local vendors like Compost in My Shoe, David’s Catering and Confections, and Hello My Name is ... BBQ, plus produce from GrowFood Carolina and plenty of beer from Holy City Brewing. “Holy City attended last year’s Plantasia, and we thought they were the perfect choice to open up the event to a new demographic,” says Kyle Barnette, executive director of the Charleston Horticultural Society. “You’ll see how they go from the plants to the beer. This is like a more epic Plantasia workshop — where you can drink.”
