Whether you’ve been shagging for 50 years, you’re a beginner, or you just like to stand by and watch the dancers do their twisty thang, the Boone Hall Beach Blast should have something for you. It’s the first event in Boone Hall’s Summer Concert Series, and they’re kicking things off in style with music from beach music greats and “Charleston largest dance floor” — over 1,600 feet, we’re told. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy music from headliners the Original Tams, the Legends of Beach, Billy Scott and the Prophets, and the SugarBees. Also performing will be Nature Blu and Jeff Hall, one of the original Drifters. Shag champions Sam and Lisa West will be on hand to give shag lessons and show you how it’s really done. Beer, wine, and food will be for sale on the grounds of the historic plantation, so leave your coolers (and pets for that matter) at home. Upcoming concerts in the series include the Little River Band (July 19), the Oak Ridge Boys (Aug. 8), and Ricky Scaggs (Sept. 6).
