Bones author touts her new locally set YA novel

No Bones about it

Kathy Reichs, bestselling author of the Bones novels and producer of the Fox series of the same name, is making a stop in Charleston on Nov. 5. She’s touring in support of her new young adult novel Virals, released by Razorbill on Nov. 2.

The book, which is a spin-off of Reichs’ popular series, is set on Morris Island and follows 14-year-old Tory Brennan, the niece of Bones lead character Temperance Brennan. Tory and her pals get embroiled in a 40-year-old murder mystery, get exposed to an experimental strain of canine parovirus, and discover new super-powers that help them solve the case.

“Throughout the book I tried to select real-life settings, such as the Old Market or the Morris Lighthouse, so the reader could feel a connection to the city of Charleston,” Reichs says. The author decided to write for younger readers after receiving fan mail from teens interested in forensics.

Reichs will sign books at the Mt. Pleasant Barnes & Noble on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. For more info, call (843) 216-9756.
