The Buzz:
WHAT IS IT? Perched over the tidal waters of Bowen’s Creek, choice pairings of South Carolina’s blues masters take advantage of the serene, rustic setting of Bowen’s Island Restaurant to wail away into the sunset.
WHY SEE IT? The Blues Romp in the Swamp (May 23) features the double-booking of guitarist Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac and harmonica king Smoky Weiner, surely providing some killer collaborations. And Charleston blues patriarch Shrimp City Slim co-bills with Greenville’s Goddess of the Blues, Wanda Johnson (pictured), the following afternoon.
WHO SHOULD GO? The beauty of the blues is its mass appeal — fans of every musical genre can relate to the simple progressions and honest croonings of a blues singer. Combine South Carolina’s best with a delicious seafood platter at Bowen’s, and there’s very little to be down about. (3 hours) (Stratton Lawrence)
