Blue Mountain singer/guitarist Carey Hudson and bassist Laurie Stirratt have been making Southern rock and blues for more than two decades. The two first came together in the Hilltops, an Oxford, Miss.-based band formed in 1988 by Hudson and Laurie’s brother John Stirratt (of Wilco). After a stint in Los Angeles, Hudson and Stirratt returned to Oxford in 1991 and led Blue Mountain through the ’90s and early 2000s, releasing a slew of melodic, jangly, boot-stomping tunes on the Roadrunner label. After a five-year hiatus, they reunited in 2007 and hit the road. The band recorded and released an album titled Midnight in Mississippi in 2008. They’ve been on the go with backing from drummer Jed Newell ever since.
