Uncle Mingo will bring funk to the fair

Every year, the Green Fair hosts an eclectic mix of acts, and this year is no exception. Veteran roots-rock band the Blue Dogs co-headline the Coastal Conservation League Main Stage alongside funk-rockers Uncle Mingo. Some of the other acts include Stained Glass Wall, Dream Merchants, the 3 Dudes, Nathan Calhoun, Introducing Fish Taco, and members of Shrimp Records.

The Blue Dogs are known for their folksy style, Southern drawls, and gentlemanly demeanor. There's a touch of bluegrass and country in their music, thanks in large part to the songwriting of guitarist/lead vocalist Bobby Houck and bassist Hank Futch.

Formed in 1989, Uncle Mingo have a reputation for a high-energy stage show, replete with infectious party vibes. After a lengthy breakup, the band returned to the stage in 2006.

Led by guitarists Everette Bigbee and Scott Freeman with backing from bassist Joe Innella and double-kick drummer David Clark, Stained Glass Wall offers up bluesy riffs and a dose of psychedelic grooves.

Although the 3 Dudes have earned a solid reputation as performers, they are better known for the fact that each band member is under the age of 13. On stage they perform a combo of rock, electric blues, and alternative music, plus a few originals.

The leader of local quintet Calhoun's Calling, Nathan Calhoun also plays around town as a solo performer. He can switch from folk-pop and blues to contemporary party-rock and funk with ease.

Acoustic folk comedy duo Introducing Fish Taco come up with most of their humorous and snarky rock tunes on the spot.

The most collaborative ensemble of the day will certainly be the Shrimp Records gang, a loose collective of label-mates featuring some of Chucktown's finest musicians. Attendees can expect dynamic tunes with impressive arrangements, rich harmonies, and unusual instrumentation.

Reggae/Caribbean music act Dream Merchants round out the bill.
