A casual creekside concert organized by Steve Carroll of Red’s Ice House and John McElroy from recently-renovated The Landing (next door) on Shem Creek, ShemDig made a minor splash last spring. Heavy on the Budweiser and Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, the weekly Thursday evening events were basically laid-back get-togethers for East Cooper yups — successful preppies who love networking at oyster roasts and neighborhood barbecues. They mostly booked funky cover bands, with a few real stand-out acts, like Kevn Kinney. It was nice to see the old Trawler building and its familiar lighthouse put to use as a social gathering spot. It was strangely reassuring to see so many Charleston-styled yuppies congregate.
