Best Way to See Local Churches Without Having to, You Know, Go to Church

Steven Hyatt's Churches of Charleston Project

Staff Pick

Photographer Steven Hyatt was visiting the Circular Congregational Church back in 2009 when he was inspired to photograph the historic sanctuary. That shoot blossomed into his Churches of Charleston project. Since then, Hyatt has documented churches across the city and beyond. Using a technique called high dynamic range (HDR), he gives the historic spaces a fresh, vibrant look. Asheville, Columbia, and Savannah are next on the list for his newly named Churches of America project. You can find more information at thechurchesofamerica.com.
