Nothing signals tourist season like having the leaders of our local beach communities wringing their hands and cackling menacingly at their latest attempt to drive off visitors. Parking fees, stringent beachgoer requirements, and business limits are about making the experience as uncomfortable as possible to tourists and daytrippers. Nowhere is that more evident than Sullivan's Island, with the no-singing ban introduced last summer. And not just singing, you divas. They've also banned yelling, shouting, hooting, and whistling. As the math goes, embarrassing politics + South Carolina = national media coverage. Cue ABC and CNN. Sigh.
