Portabella Torta at Zia Taqueria
1956-A Maybank Hwy. James Island
A mushroom sandwich at a Mexican joint? We're not kidding. This is the gringo part of Zia, the little taqueria next to the Terrace Theatre that's quickly become a favorite. The tortas here are served on fresh telera rolls with traditional meats like barbacoa, carnita, and the like. But the one we favor is the marinated portabella. Yum. The deliciously meaty mushroom gets piled high with layers of black beans, onions, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and a scrumptious cilantro jalapeño spread. Pair it with a margarita and a post-dinner movie and this torta could anchor a perfect night out in the 'burbs.
