Sewee Outpost

Staff Pick

When driving up Highway 17, you can't miss the tall, barn-like Sewee Outpost in Awendaw. The massive general store and gas station serves as a major stop for outdoor enthusiasts, tourists, hunters, fishermen, and locals. It's adjacent to Awendaw Green's weekly Barn Jams and the annual Music and Oysters for Wildlife Benefit (both held in its backyard). It's convenient to the Francis Marion National Forest, Bulls Bay, and the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge as well. The Sewee Outpost serves as one of the main meeting places in the Awendaw community — and it's truly one of the coolest country stores in the tri-county area. Where else can a shopper load up on classic soft drinks, weird candy bars, fresh coffee, frozen quiche, chicken biscuits, camouflage jackets, Carhartt shirts, cold beer, locally made hot sauces and jams, cookbooks and guide books by local authors, and live minnows and crickets in one stop?
