The Gin Joint's head bartender and owner Joe Raya knows how to make some unique cocktails, but probably one of the most unique ingredients he's used is tobacco. Raya's take on the classic Manhattan is smoky and delicious. He takes shade-grown tobacco leaves and lets them steep in Woodford Reserve bourbon for 10 days to make a smoky, tobacco-infused bourbon. The addition of housemade bitters and vermouth make for a great cigar alternative. In January, the Gin Joint participated in a national Manhattan drink competition sponsored by Esquire. The Connecticut Shade Manhattan came in second place. This drink occasionally pops up for a limited time.
