Just two days after Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines last November, staffers from Charleston-based aid organization Water Missions International were on the ground assessing the damage and setting up clean water systems. A week after Haiyan, Water Missions estimated that its water purification systems were serving the daily drinking water needs of 70,000 people. But the great thing about WMI is that they always think beyond the short-term. Three months out, Water Missions estimated that 100,000 people had daily access to safe water thanks to the installation of purification systems. If you're still looking for a way to spend your tax return money, you can't go wrong with a donation to WMI.
