On the surface, the Off the Sidewalk Charity 5K Donut Run sounds like any other benefit 5K. You pay an entry fee. You run a certain distance. And at the half-way mark, you scarf down a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts, original glazed. Talk about the most appetizing 5K that we've ever heard of. While the idea of mixing fried dough and physical activity may sound a bit nauseating, the more team members you had, the fewer donuts you were personally responsible for, so if you set it up right, running the race would have been a piece of cake ... or donuts. Plus, think of all the calories the participants ultimately burned. The event was a benefit for local organization Sidewalk Chalk, which helps kids access creative outlets like acting, art, and writing. More than 200 people participated. It'll be held for a second time on April 16. Better grab yourself a hot dozen and start practicing now.
