Best Studio You May Not Have Heard of Yet

Studio PS

Staff Pick

Not many people know about Studio PS. Heck, it's a block away from City Paper's offices and we didn't even know what was going on over there. But the space is poised to shake up Charleston's art scene in a big way. Founded by Ade Offuniyin, a local arts supporter and the grandson of revered Charleston blacksmith Philip Simmons, the arts center includes a theater that will be home to the recently formed Gullah Theatre and space for local artists to work. The idea behind the studio is to encourage collective work and responsibility in order to help solve problems faced by nearby urban residents. Affiliates include local spiritual leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, scholars, and community activists
