Best State Resolution

Unwelcome Trump

Staff Pick

Democratic state Rep. John King made his feelings about The Donald clear when he filed a House resolution to publicly state that Trump is not welcome in South Carolina. The South Carolina lawmaker’s announcement came as the controversial presidential candidate arrived in the Palmetto State for a bit of campaigning. King saw Trump’s message as the antithesis of what the state had accomplished in July by removing the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds. Citing Trump’s “many inflammatory comments on immigration and Islam” and “abrasive and racist rhetoric,” King called on his fellow state legislators to express their collective disapproval of the candidate who would go on to win the South Carolina Republican primary. —Dustin Waters
