Veteran radio newsman Fred Storey — an award-winning Carolinian who's been doing news in Charleston for 11 years — plays a vital role on one of the Holy City's strongest talk-radio shows. More an assistant coach or comedic straight man than a bumbling sidekick, Storey adds balance and color to the show each weekday morning from 6-10 a.m. Whereas Todd's occasional rants can sometimes become heated and frantic, Storey usually anchors things with a dash of comfortable inelegance, a hint of oafishness, a mispronounced word, or a foolish bet. It works well. Storey does a solid job screening and handling the copious calls from listeners, delivering the national news segments with his subtly melodic build-ups. Depend on it.
