Best Shows We Didn't Have a Chance to See

Diana Ross, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Bonnie Raitt at the Dock Street Theatre

Staff Pick

One has to cough up a pile of cash to get into a show presented by the Carolina-based organization Music With Friends. It's a neat concept: Membership in the "club" is open to anyone who'd like to pay a one-time $500 initiation fee and then pay $1,500 each year for access to three performances annually with free parking, a pre-show party with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, and an after-show party at a local club or restaurant. But for music fans who aren't part of the one percent, it's prohibitively expensive. Last year, Music With Friends brought legendary R&B/pop singer Diana Ross, veteran funk/soul ensemble Earth, Wind & Fire, and blues/roots singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt to the Dock Street stage. Motown great Smokey Robinson is set to perform there on March 26. Start saving up.
