For a brief and shining moment, Park Circle was home to a pretty damn cool art gallery. Winston-Salem native The Patrick Harris (yes, The Patrick Harris) held a grand opening for The PH Gallery at its storefront location on East Montague Avenue on Sept. 7. On Sept. 30, he announced via Facebook that he was closing up shop and moving back to North Carolina to help care for his ailing mother. “I took my shot at it and it didn’t work out. But I always feel like things are going to work out like they should,” he wrote. While it was open, the gallery showed bold art by the likes of spray-paint poet Patch Whisky, master of the grotesque Dane Walters, and landscape realist Cindy Taplin. And every time we stopped by, Harris was hunched over his latest project in the front room, listening to ESPN 30 for 30 specials on a small TV set while plugging away at another one of his pop-art portraits.
