Best Rock Reunion

The Rock*A*Teens

Staff Pick

The Rock*A*Teens may be from Cabbagetown, Ga., but their drummer is none other than Metronome Charleston’s own T. Ballard Lesemann. The band made its mark in the ’90s with Merge Records, and they were in good company with bands like Spoon, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Arcade Fire. Though The Rock*A*Teens didn’t get the recognition those bands did, they did leave an impression on the scene in Atlanta, as well as on rock ‘n’ roll nerds like Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, who said the Rock*A*Teens were the best band of the ’90s. In honor of Merge’s 25th anniversary and the vinyl reissue of Rock*A*Teens’ Sweet Bird of Youth, the band reunited last year and hit the road. Thankfully, we were able to catch the crew rockin’ out at The Royal American, and it genuinely felt like we were in the midst of something special, because, yeah, we were.
