Best Rock 'n' Roll Seamstress

Rachel Kate Gillon

Staff Pick

Some locals might recognize local musician and singer Rachel Kate Gillon for her work as frontlady with disbanded rockers the Shaniqua Brown or as one of the strummers and harmonizers in country/swing combo the Local Honeys. Regulars at West Ashley eatery the Early Bird Diner know her as one of the vivacious servers on staff, and a few Charleston scenesters have spotted her working as a co-manager at indie recording studio Collective Recordings. But what many don't realize is that Gillon styles many of her own outfits at home. Her work often includes patches, stage costumes, tutus, and little treasures and garments found at thrift stores.
