It's not often that a conservative will surprise us, but Adjutant General Bob Livingston gave us a very frank answer when we asked for his thoughts on Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Roughly nine months before the Obama administration repealed the policy, Livingston was already ready to address a change in policy among the ranks of the South Carolina National Guard. "We will probably have some individual challenges, but, overall, military people are well-disciplined," Livingston told us on the campaign trail in early 2010. "The military has always been able to adjust to the changing nature of social issues. Because of our common mission and our bond with one another — you get into combat and you don't care."
