Best Rehab of an Eyesore Thanks to a "Silicon Harbor" Company

PeopleMatter's King Street HQ

Staff Pick

King Street storefronts have long been the home of shops, restaurants, and bars with a sprinkling of law firms and shuttered has-beens. One thing the street, especially the growing Upper King Street district, hasn't had is a major commercial office space. With the relocation of PeopleMatter from its Navy Yard digs to the rehabbed 466 King St. location, the area gets an anchor tenant and rids itself of a long-abandoned century-old facade. The company boasts that the move will make PeopleMatter the largest privately held tech company downtown. PeopleMatter CEO Nate DaPore is to blame for the area's cringe-worthy "Silicon Harbor" moniker, an allusion to the expanding Charleston-area technology industry. But if DaPore's expansion downtown is any indication of things to come for the area, the name might stick.
