Best Reason to Never Serve Champagne at an Oyster Roast

Ask the Lee Brothers

Staff Pick

It took author and television host Anthony Bourdain by surprise, but the audience booing cookbook authors Matt Lee and Ted Lee probably didn't surprise any Charlestonians at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. You see, when the Lees appeared on Anthony Bourdain's Charleston episode of No Reservations a couple years back, they served champagne in jelly jars at an oyster roast. Despite acknowledging that it wasn't the custom, beer being the drink of choice at all oyster roasts, the Lee boys have never quite lived that episode down. Why was Bourdain even talking about the Lee Brothers anyway? Well, he wasn't. A couple of audience members brought them up during the Q&A portion of the night, and the rest of the audience just took it and ran.
