Thanks to Box, Jesse B Turner, and their fabulous hair, The Bridge remains your favorite station
The Bridge touts itself as “the Sound of Charleston,” and it’s probably right. In an age of corporate radio takeovers and generic, test-group-approved playlists, we appreciate hearing a little variety and local flavor at the northern end of the FM dial. The station has a strong stable of well-known hosts for shows like Box in the Morning, Middays with Laura Lee, Afternoons with the Critic, Weeknights with the Wolf, and Sampson’s Sunday Social, each with their own musical taste and take on the local news. Be sure to check out the Critic’s Choice show on Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon, when Jim “The Critic” Voigt plays the songs he loves — folksy and alt-country stuff you’d never hear on corporate radio by the likes of Joe Pug, Calexico, Kopecky, and JD McPherson. Here’s to The Bridge for keeping local radio alive in Charleston.
