Showbiz lore tells one to never work with animals or children, as they will soon become the stars of the stage. So it was a surprise to see a note in the program of Threshold Repertory's production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore: "Our technical director Michael Kordek owns the cats used in this production. They were not harmed in any way," leaving the audience to wonder what suspense would unfold. The play follows Irish National Liberation Army Lieutenant Padraic on a bloody journey to discover what has become of his dearly beloved feline, Wee Thomas. Unfortunately, what he discovers is a less-than-cuddly kitty — more like roadkill. With strong performances by the cast and crew, a few meager meows from Sir Roger and Wee Thomas couldn't steal the show in this violent black comedy.
