Best Place to See a Bear Re-enacting a Charmin Commercial

Charles Towne Landing

Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site

If you love nature, there's nothing more natural than watching a bear head behind a tree with a role of TP and a copy of the Financial Times at the Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site. Well, maybe not, but you're guaranteed to see bears, as well as cougars, turkeys, vultures, deer, bison, elk, otters, bobcats, and a host of other indigenous animals that the first Europeans would have encountered upon landing in what's now West Ashley. The Animal Forest, which is enclosed for your safety, is one of many exhibits — including an African-American cemetery, Native American shell mounds, and colonial architecture, among others — showcasing the site's historical significance to South Carolina and the U.S. It's history going all the way back 6,000 years. And if that doesn't impress you, then there's always the bear doing his thing in the woods (sans TP).
