We had high hopes for Occupy Charleston. After all, we'd seen what had happened in New York and Boston and even Columbia, and, well, we wanted just a little bit of that metropolitan madness down here. Alas, it wasn't to be. Sigh. When Occupy set up camp in the Holy City, it wasn't in the logical place, Marion Square. Instead, it was on the outskirts of the peninsula at Brittlebank Park, directly across from the Charleston Police Department. Ugh. Further adding to our disappointment, when we showed up for the first day of the occupation, we were greeted with a pizza party being thrown by a bunch of aging hippies and Democratic Party activists, who the true-blue Occupiers had the good enough sense to stay the hell away from. Viva la revolución, but hold the anchovies.
