Best Park Idea

Lowcountry Lowline

Staff Pick

For years, city planners, downtown residents, and transportation advocates have pushed to make use of the unused rail corridor that runs alongside I-26 south to Mt. Pleasant Street. Well, a new initiative by a group that’s been working in secret since 2013 to secure the property announced last year that they plan to improve the park to run from the far north end of downtown on Courtland Street to Woolfe Street just a block off of Upper King. Fundraising is now underway for the project, which its supporters say could be a catalyst for neighborhood development and a boon for non-car travel. —Sam Spence
