Chef/owner Michael Scognamiglio's Mediterranean cuisine can be rustic or refined, but it's never bland or mild. One of the most flavorful treats at his elegant Mt. Pleasant eatery is an appetizer of octopus salad. Listed as Insalata di Polpo, it's grilled braised octopus served over julienned red potato, with celery, arugula, and a tangy lemon vinaigrette. Scognamiglio braises the Portuguese octopus for hours in olive oil and garlic before grilling it lightly. Tender, sweet, inexpensive (at $8), and not-so-briny, it's a must-try.
