The City of Charleston Parking Card

Earlier this year, the City of Charleston unveiled a new way to pay for the parking meter: a prepaid charge card. Other communities, including Isle of Palms, have replaced meters with central parking kiosks where you pay for your time and put a receipt in the window. In Charleston, the meters are staying, but you can now pay using a card provided by the city's traffic enforcement office. You put cash on the card and pay for parking by inserting it into a slot now available in about half of the city's parking meters. The best part is that, when you're done, you can insert the card back in the meter and get unspent time placed back on the card. Technology hasn't been this practical since the TV remote.
